An introduction to my Portland Oregon Counseling with an authenticity focus
Existential counseling and therapy recognizes that there comes a time in our personal development when we are called to leave behind the city of conventional values and to enter the wilderness of our undiscovered self. Some are called to personal authenticity by the desperation of a life devoid of personal meaning. Others are called by the good fortune of a healthy upbringing. Sooner or later, if we are to be healthy and whole, we must take that step that separates us from others, and step forth into the world as our own, unique, selves. To do so is to fulfill an inherent psychological drive - to individuate.
"Becoming a real person," "becoming your self," "doing it 'my way'," "being authentic" are different popular ways of referring to a life that is both inwardly-directed by the peculiar dictates of your own nature and also outwardly expressed as taking your place in the world as the difference you are.
My counseling with a focus on personal authenticity addresses these existential concerns, guiding you to self-discovery and self-expression. Complementing my more typical counseling skills is my training in Focusing, a very special way of learning to listen to your own inner Self. For more info about Focusing, see the button on the left.
For more information about the different topics asscociated with my Porltand, Oregon authenticity counseling, please see the "About Counseling with an Authenticity Focus" button on the left. For a collection of quotations related to the issues of authenticity, see the "Markers on the Path to Personal Authenticity" button on the left. The Markers page is cited by other websites and psychologists for its being a resource of inspiration support for those testing the waters of personal authenticity.
Consider a free consultation
Counseling is a transformative relationship shared by two persons. So, it is important that you take the time to check out counselor with whom you might work. Is the chemistry right for you? Does the therapist's background and abilities meet your needs? Would a referral be appropriate? Because I believe that it is important that you explore such questions at no cost to you before beginning work, I offer prospective clients the opportunity to meet with me for a free 50-minute consultation.
How do I arrange a complimentary consultation?
The easiest way to arrange a complimentary consultation (or any appointment) is to use the "Book your appointment online" link in the column to the left. There you can book an appointment at a day and time of your convenience. Of course this can be done by phone (503.226.2771) or email, but my busy practice may result in my not replying to you in a timely manner.
My counseling offices are located in Portland and Vancouver. Maps for and directions to my offices may be found using the "Directions to My Office" link in the left column.
