Are You Ready to Stop Smoking NOW?

You know cigarette smoking is dangerous. That's one of the reasons you've decided to stop smoking an take a look at this page. If I may, let me put your cigarette smoking habit in a different, and perhaps stark light.

  An Audio Message from Michael

Cigarettes contain more than 4,500 chemicals including carbon monoxide, DDT, formaldehyde, methane, and tar. That's more than four thousand five hundred chemicals that find their way into your lungs and body with every drag. And are you aware that nicotine is a pesticide? That's, right, it's used to kill living things (and you're a living thing!).

If the average cigarette smoker were to smoke two packs a day, taking 10 drags a cigarette, for 35 years of smoking that would equal 5,110,000 "injections" of these more than 4,500 chemicals. That's more than 5 million doses of chemicals, many of which are known to be lethal. Is it a wonder that cigarette smoking is deadly?

Scientific research reveals hypnosis is the most effective way to quit smoking!

I recall a decades-old stop smoking advertisement. Until this day, it stands out in my mind. It showed a boy sneaking his very first cigarette in a bathroom. He awkwardly lights the cigarette. He puts the cigarette to his lips. He inhales. He starts coughing and gagging. The background announcer's voice asks, "Do you remember when you had your first cigarette?... Perhaps your body was trying to tell you something."

And perhaps now you're ready to listen to what your body was trying to tell you all along, perhaps you're ready to quit smoking, ready to stop smoking for ever, ready to enjoy a life of health, well-being, and freedom from worry, stigma, and self-nagging.

Do You Need More Reasons to Quit Smoking?

Some of us are just a bit more hard-headed than others. If you need a few more convincing reasons as to why you want to stop smoking today, not tomorrow, take the link to my Smoking Research page that contains reports of research findings on cigarette smoking. The link to this page can be found on the top left. Given such reasons and the cost of smoking during these trying economic times, can you afford not to quit smoking?

You CAN Stop Smoking Today

I know you can quit smoking. I did. I used to smoke two packs a day of Salem cigarettes. I did so for 16 years. I quit smoking more than 25 years ago. I know what it's like to contemplate stopping. I know what it's like to think you can't. I also know what it's like to know that you CAN! I know what it's like to never, ever even think of cigarettes. You CAN too!

What do you think is the most effective way to stop smoking? According to a 1998 study, it's not cold turkey: only 8 percent of the people who stop smokingcold turkey are successful. That method is a turkey. How about patches or Xyban? That's drug replacement therapy, and it's no more effective effective as methodone is in ending a heroin addiction. Only 28% of patch users successfully quit smoking. (See the "Smoking Research Findings" link on the left for research indicating Chantix, nicotine gum and lozenges may be hazardous to your health).

In contrast to the relative ineffectiveness of cold turkey and drug replacement, the 1998 quit smoking study found that hypnosis generally has a 60% success rate, although individual practitioners may experience a significantly higher rate of success. (And by the way, if you find anyone who advertizes a 100% success rate, stay clear, for there isn't any such thing!) In fact, hypnosis is such an effective method of stopping smoking that the British

What is it like to be in a trance? Nothing at all like the movies show! Check out the link on the left.

Medical Association authorizes hypnosis as the method of choice for smoking cessation, and the English government actually pays the fee for hypnosis smoking cessation programs.

You CAN quit smoking - you CAN stop smoking. I should know. I smoked 2 packs a day for 12 years. My last cigarette was in November, 1981. More importantly, my clients stop smoking with my easy smoking cessation program described below. Keep in mind of course that hypnosis isn't a magic wand. Your stop smoking success depends of course on your motivation, how ready you are to stop smoking.

If you really want to stop smoking, I really can help you begin your life as non-smoker. Still you may think you've been smoking too long to successfully quit smoking. Well, I often successfully work with smokers who have been smoking as long as 30 years. A client of mine stopped smoking after 72 years of smoking!!!

Are you ready to quit?

The American Lung Association book, 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life, asks six questions to determine whether you're ready to quit smoking. If you're interested, answer yes or no to these questions, and count how many "yes" answers you gave.

1. Do you believe that smoking is dangerous to your health?

2. Besides health reasons, do you have other personal reasons for quitting?

3. Are you committed to stop smoking, even though it may be tough at first?

4. Is it a #1 priority for you to stop smoking?

5. Are your family, friends, and coworkers willing to help you quit smoking?

6. Have you planned specific strategies to support your non-smoking?

If you can answer yes to four or more of these questions, then you're ready to stop smoking. And, if you're ready to quit then consider my Stop Smoking hypnotherapy program.

My Stop Smoking Hypnotherapy Program

If you compare for yourself my smoking cessation program to the work of other hypnotherapists, you will discover how superior my program is. My program has been designed using the very best of diverse stop smoking programs that I have researched. My smoking cessation program consists of:

    • One 2-hour Stop Smoking for Life Hypnosis Session
    • One 1-hour Be Healthy for Life Hypnosis Session
    • A CD recording of each of your hypnosis sessions (that's 2 CDs)
    • The American Lung Association's book, 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life
    • The X-Pack No B.S. Tool for Becoming an Ex-Smoker
    • A Guarantee of Support
    • Additional Supportive Literature

Here's a detailed discussion of what my stop smoking program offers you:

Stop Smoking for Life Hypnosis Session: In this 2-hour session, you become a non-smoker. Come to session, prepared to leave smoking in your past forever. Prior to session, be sure you've thrown away your cigarettes, and tossed your ashtrays. You won't need them anymore.

It's a 2-hour long session, because there's alot that we do. Because hypnosis is a new experience for most of us, I take time explain hypnosis to your satisfaction. I answer any questions that you may have about hypnosis, and I explain the hypnosis work that we'll do in our first session. I want to make sure that you feel totally comfortable with hypnosis.

Additionally, I also want to get to know about your smoking habit: what motivates you to smoke, what motivates you to quit.. Then, after answering all of your questions, I'll hypnotize you, and you become a non-smoker.

Be Healthy for Life Hypnosis Session: In this 1-hour session which is scheduled approximately 14 to 17 days after your becoming a non-smoker, I direct your attention your from your smoking past to your future of increasing health and well-being as a non-smoker.

Quit Smoking CD

Two CD Recordings of Your Hypnosis Sessions: It's comforting to know that your hypnosis work will not be left at my office. That's because I make a CD recording of the work that we do in each of your hypnosis experiences. Those CD recordings contain everyting you need to go in and out of trance, and receive continuing support for your new lifestyle as a non-smoker.

Stop Smoking Book The American Lung Association's book, 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life: I've researched stop-smoking books which I thought would be helpful to my clients. This book by the American Lung Association is among the best. It offers numerous very practical suggestions for supporting your new life as a non-smoker. Your new copy is a $14.95 value.

Stop Smoking Guarantee Guarantee of Support: While I cannot guarantee your own motivation to be a non-smoker, I can guarantee my support of your new life as a non-smoker. This is my guarantee of support: if during the following 12 calendar months, you feel like you might need hypnotic reinforcement for your being a non-smoker, you are welcome to come in for a free session.

Stop Smoking Handouts Handouts: I give you several handouts that support your new lifestyle as a non-smoker including: "Tips for Ex-Smokers," "What You Can Look Forward to as a Non-Smoker," and "Tobacco Facts."

What can you look forward to as a non-smoker?
  • What happens to your body when you stop smoking? According to the American Cancer Society...
  • 20 minutes after you stop smoking: Your blood pressure drops to a level close to that before the last cigarette. The temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal. Your pulse rate drops.
  • 8 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal. The oxygen level in your blood returns to normal.
  • 24 hours after quitting: Your chance of a heart attack decreases.
  • 48 hours after quitting: nerve endings start to regrow. Your ability to smell and taste is enhanced.
  • 2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: Your circulation improves and your lungs perform up to 30 percent better. Walking becomes easier.
  • 1 to 9 months after quitting: Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce infection.
  • 1 year after quitting: The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's.
  • 5 to 15 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker.
  • 10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is 50 percent lower than it is for continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas also decreases. The risk of ulcer decreases.
  • 15 years after quitting: The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmoker's. The risk of death returns to nearly the level of people who have never smoked.

You should be to check things out without having to pay for answers to question like "Can hypnosis work for my needs?" "Is the "chemistry" right?" That's why I offer complimentary consultations.

Are certain times easier to quit smoking than others?

Yes! There are easier times to quit. It's helpful to keep in mind that you don't need additional stress during the week or two that you have begun your life as a non-smoker. So, if you're planning a wedding, divorce, a job change, selling your business, or experiencing or expecting an unusual stressor in your life, my suggestion is that you be kind to yourself, and postpone your decision to stop smoking until your life has returned to a sense of stability. Neither do you need the additional stress of learning the non-smoking lifestyle, nor does your starting your non-smoking life need the stress of upsetting life conditions.

There are also easier ways to stop smoking. If your spouse or partner smokes, it may be harder for you to stop smoking. If your he/she is unwilling to quit with you, make firm agreements ahead of time concerning how you expect support of your determination to be healthy as a non-smoker.

Why choose my program? Feel Welcome to Compare...

I have made every effort to create for the most effective quit smoking hypnosis program. I provide you here a link (little blue button above) to the Oregon Hypnotherapy Association for you to compare with other stop smoking programs. I believe you will agree there isn't a superior program offered in the Portland / Oregon/ Southwest Washington area.

When comparing, consider also that my hypnotherapy practice is distinguished from the majority of my fellow hypnotists in several important respects: 1) my expertise in hypnosis has been recogized by NGH as qualifying me to teach and train hypnotists for certification; 2) unlike most other hypnotists, I have an extensive educational background in psychology including not only a bachelor degree and a master degree in psychology, but also trainings in additional counseling modalities including training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming by the founder of NLP.

The Cost of Smoking

Surely you've noticed how expensive cigarettes are. But have you really tallied the cost to you the actual cost of your cigarette smoking. It's sometimes helpful to become conscious of the actual cost of smoking:

Your Cost of Cigarettes at $4.00 Per Pack
# Cigarettes Smoked Per Day Daily Cost Cost/Year 5 Years

10 Years

20 Years
5 Cigarettes $1.00 $365 $1,825 $3,650 $7,300
10 Cigarettes $2.00 $730 $3,650 $7,300 $14,600
1 Pack $4.00 $1,460 $7,300 $14,600 $29,200
2 Packs $8.00 $2,920 $14,600

$29,200

$58,400

That cost doesn't include the cost to your health, longevity, and fulfillment. And the costs to you are only going to go up. I don't know about you, but I can't afford to let the money I might spend for a new car or a house downpayment go up in smoke, while Big Tobacco executives sit back on their yachts bought with the killing they made off of me.

You could spend more on cigarettes... if you continue to smoke. You can put an end to this waste of life and resources also with my Stop Smoking program. Surely you have better things to do with your hard-earned money than watch it go up in smoke. Not only that, but also you can receive a 100% IRS Tax Credit for the cost of your smoking cessation program. For more information about the tax credit, select the "IRS Tax Credit" button on the left panel.

If you're ready to stop smoking, here's how to begin...
