Portland counseling/Therapy with an experiential approach
An experiential approach to therapy / counseling
There's more to effective counseling than just talking. Change doesn't happen by our retelling yet again stories with which we are already too familiar. Nor does intellecualizing, speculating or talking about feelings result in the changes we seek. Rather change results from an experiential shift in how we think, feel, and behave.
My Portland private counseling practice offers you the support of an experiential approach to the changes which you seek to make.
Types of Change which My Therapy Clients Seek
The clients with whom I am privileged to work as a counselor are everyday persons like you and I, who experience problems which provoke the need to make changes. The types of changes and issues for which my clients seek the support of my experiential counseling typically include:

- Change in the way they see things or themselves
- Change in the way they think about things or themselves
- Change in the way they feel about things or themselves
- Change in the way they behave
- Support for problem solving
- Developing new strategies for living
- Gaining insight or self-awareness
- Personal growth
Counseling / Therapy Approaches
As a therapist, I meet my clients with an unconditional acceptance of who they are and the problems they experience. Because no single therapeutic approach can possibly address all of our needs, to be a more effective therapist and counselor, I am trained in a variety of experiential therapy modalities, and therefore offer:
- Mind/Body (Somatic) therapy - An experiential counseling approach which integrates, talk, experiencing, feeling, and the body in a holistic approach to your personal growth.
- Hypnotherapy - Hypnosis is a therapy method whereby the habits, behaviors, and attitudes which thwart your life may be overcome, thereby allow you a greater ease in living.
- Authenticity / Existential therapy - A counseling approach which fosters your taking your place in your life as the unique being you are, and taking responsibility for your existence and its fulfillment.
- Spiritual (transpersonal) counseling- A counseling approach which explores the questions and issues we face as we integrate the spiritual dimension with our human experience.
I hope you will feel welcomed to explore any of these therapy approaches which might interest you by using the menu selections located above.
Consider a free consultation
Counseling is a transformative relationship shared by two persons. So, it is important that you take the time to check out counselor with whom you might work. Is the chemistry right for you? Does the therapist's background and abilities meet your needs? Would a referral be appropriate? Because I believe that it is important that you explore such questions at no cost to you before beginning work, I offer prospective clients the opportunity to meet with me for a free 50-minute consultation.
How do you arrange a consultation?
The easiest way to arrange a consultation is to use the "Online Appointment Booking" link at the top of the page. There you can book a consultation (or appointment) at a day and time of your convenience. Of course this can be done by phone (503.226.2771) or email, but given my busy practice, I may not reply to you in a timely manner.
My office is located in Portland, Oregon. Directions to my Portland office and maps may be found using the "Directions to My Office" link off of the "About Michael" menu selection above.
